Boy Scouts

For over two decades, the Scouting programs at the Estero United Methodist Church have instilled in the young men of our community the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were when Scouting was started in the United States in 1910.

·     Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. Scouting encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community.  Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals. It is communicated to them that those in the Scouting family care about what happens to them, regardless of whether a game is won or lost.

·     Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Scouting promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.

Pack 30’s program is designed for boys who are between six and ten years old. Cub Scouts learn Scouting values as they “Search, Discover, and Share” with their friends and parents or adult partner. Monthly activities are planned, such as a train ride, a visit to the zoo, or even going to the Kennedy Space  Center. Campouts and other activities also allow the boys to explore the great outdoors that Florida has to offer. The Pack meets on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm until 7:30pm at the Fellowship Hall.

Troop 30’s program is designed for young men between 11 and 18 years of age. The Troop’s learning concept is “Fun with a Purpose”. The Troop is a “boy-led” program, which means that the youth members (under the guidance of the adults) plan and lead the meetings, campouts, and activities. This is a vital part of learning leadership skills that will become very important in adult life. We camp once a month and attend a week-long camp each summer. The Troop meets on Monday nights in the Fellowship Hall at the Estero United Methodist Church from 7pm to 8:30pm.
